The biennially awarded international Berthold Leibinger Innovationspreis for research and development work in applied laser technology has opened its call for the 2012 prizes. Applications and nominations can be submitted to the Berthold Leibinger Stiftung.

Deadline for submission is December 31, 2011.

„There are a vast number of challenges in the world of lasers. So many thoughts and intentions seeking for a solution are brought up, solutions that can and will be found. Therefore it’s a pleasure for me to see that the laser world is so vivid” says founder Professor Berthold Leibinger. With the installation of the Innovationspreis in the year 2000 he intended to do his part in supporting this technology.

The importance the Innovationspreis has gained in recent years is also reflected in the prize money: The first prize-winner will be awarded a prize money of 30.000 euros. The second and third prizes are awarded with 20.000 and 10.000 euros, respectively. The presentation of the prizes to the prizewinners and their innovative works to the invited audience will be celebrated at the awards ceremony on September 14th, 2012 in Ditzingen, Germany.

Application is open to both individuals and project groups, given that the scientific or technical development work is already completed and published. Applications may be submitted in German or English, by mail or electronically.

From all applications and nominations the best of the prize-worthy works are selected by the jury as finalists. Members of the jury are renowned experts and persons from science and industry, such as Nobel Laureate Professor Theodor Hänsch and Professor Stuart Nelson from the Beckmann Laser Institute. The nominees then will be given the opportunity to personally convince the jury of the quality of their work.
