| When Theodore Maiman invented the first laser 50 years ago, hardly anyone imagined what broad and diverse areas of application this new laser technology would soon open up. For science and technology, the discovery of the laser was a stroke of luck. It has now become an almost indispensable tool in every field.
Just as the laser light tool has opened up new opportunities, in return, new challenges are constantly arising from its application that are leading to the further advancement of existing laser systems, beam sources, processing technologies and treatment methods. A development was initiated with the laser that has brought about exceptional results and many additionally astounding advancements – and more and more partners from science, business and medicine have an interest in what it can do.
The laser prizes given by the Berthold Leibinger Stiftung give special recognition to the fascinating work by researchers and scientists in laser technology. |
