Since it began its charitable activities, the Berthold Leibinger Stiftung has been sponsoring the great literary institutions in the town of Marbach am Neckar. These include the Schiller Nationalmuseum, and the Deutsches Literaturarchiv, as well as the building and furnishing of the Limo (Literaturmuseum der Moderne).

Why we sponsor literature and theater:
Literature and theater arouse ideas and open up worlds. The worlds inside one's mind are unlimited. One of our goals is to create access to as many people as possible.

The Deutsches Literaturarchiv Marbach is about to acquire the archives of the Suhrkamp and Insel publishing houses, one of the most significant events in the history of this institution. The Suhrkamp Verlag was the most influential publishing house in belles lettres and humanities during the second half of the 20th century in the Federal Republik of Germany and its archives are an essential part of the national cultural heritage. This large scale project is fostered by the Berthold Leibinger Stiftung.

It also facilitated the acquisition of the literary estate of the author Erich Kästner, as well as his letters for the German Literary Archives.

The Deutsches Literaturarchiv Marbach is one of the most important literary institutions worldwide. It collects and preserves a wealth of sources of the history of literature and culture. The archives serve literature, education and research. Their goal is to assist knowledge from original source material and to inspire the pleasure in literature.
