BERTHOLD LEIBINGER STIFTUNG
The Misholim children's center

Since the early 1980s, the Misholim Children’s Center, the Jerusalem-based therapy center, has been treating traumatized children and teens who suffer from psychological problems and emotional/neurologically-related behavioral problems.
From the beginning, the non-profit organization has helped thousands of young patients in Jerusalem who have been damaged by traumatizing experiences, such as acts of terrorism, abuse, serious disease or accidents.
Why the Berthold Leibinger Stiftung supports Misholim:
"We have been monitoring and supporting the work of Misholim since 1993. The extraordinary approach of art therapy in overcoming damage caused by trauma impressed us right from the start. Many children and teens from Jerusalem have been able to receive practical help and support."
Dr. Phil. Nicola Leibinger-Kammüller
The care that Misholim provides supports the children’s rehabilitation and contributes considerably to their integration into society.

The therapy includes the visual and performing arts and stresses the treatment of depression, panic attacks and emotional disturbances in dealing with one’s peers and adults. Treatment is provided using art in its various forms, including theater, drama and music as well as painting, drawing and sculpture. During the weekly group meetings, the materials used and treatment aids – colors, hand puppets, and costumes – play an important role.

The treatment method especially developed by Misholim is unique. Art therapy in the group, in particular, has shown excellent results. Because it is non-verbal, the therapeutic technique is better suited than talk therapy, both as a treatment as well as a preventative, for young people from socially and economically disadvantaged families whose verbal expression is often limited.
