A New Beacon of Laserlight at the

New exhibition "Light as a Tool" at the world’s largest technical museum in Munich, Germany

In 2010, one of the most important technical developments of the 20th century was celebrating its birthday - the laser technology. Lasers can be found everywhere but yet we know little about this technology. It has an enormous potential and is nowadays essential for our quality of life.
A new permanent exposition about laser technology is now presented in the “Deutsches Museum” in Munich. It shows and explains the laser and its practical applications as a tool. Partner of the exposition entitled “Light as a Tool” is the Berthold Leibinger Stiftung in Ditzingen.
The exposition found its place next to other engineering applications on the ground floor of the “Deutsches Museum”. The presentation is believed to illustrate that laser technology has now conquered all kinds of application fields and that we encounter it in everyday life not only at the supermarket checkout. In addition to the description of the laser and its arising, the exposition gives examples for its practical use. In the three divisions – information, manufacturing and medicine – it shows the fascinating possibilities of the laser.
“Light as a Tool” is a donation of the Berthold Leibinger Stiftung. Since 2000 they encourage the application of laser technology with an international innovation prize and a research prize. Also a number of institutes and companies supported this exposition with exhibits.
